Can I get a discount on my classic motorbike insurance?
Yes, although classic motorcycle insurance is already one of the more affordable types of cover available, there are many ways you can save even more money on your policy. This includes:
- Becoming an owners club or forum member
- Riding fewer than 7,500 miles a year makes you eligible for one of our low mileage policies
- Only needing temporary cover to ride your bike for short periods throughout the year
- Previous experience riding a classic bike
- Adding security precautions to your bike, such as motorcycle alarms and locks
- Owning multiple classic bikes and insuring them all with us
- Taking out laid-up cover when your bike isn’t in use

Whether you own a Kawasaki Z1, a Royal Enfield Bullet, a Ducati 860 GT, a Triumph Bonneville or a Norton Commando, we can offer low-cost, high-quality cover for all bikes, including classics, vintage, modern classics, and veteran motorbikes. We also cover classic mopeds and scooters and can often offer cover where other insurance providers cannot.
So whether you’ve modified your classic bike or you’ve got a particularly rare model, give us a call. We do our best to beat any quote.
Which classic motorbike policy do I need?
Third party only cover is the minimum level of insurance you can take out, but this might not necessarily be what’s best for your cherished bike. You can choose cover from the following options.
Third party only
This is the minimum level of cover required to ride your classic bike on public roads legally. If you’re involved in an at-fault accident, this will cover the cost of any damage or injury sustained to a third party, their property and their vehicle.
Third party, fire and theft
Third party, fire and theft (TPFT) includes everything in a third party insurance policy, but your bike is also covered against fire and theft.
Fully comprehensive cover
Fully comprehensive insurance includes everything in the above two tiers, plus it also covers the cost of damage to your motorcycle and any injuries sustained by you.
Extras for your classic bike insurance
We offer a number of comprehensive protection packages, which are a more affordable way of getting a number of optional extras such as helmets and leathers cover, legal cover and breakdown cover.
We also offer a number of optional extras which you can add to your insurance policy. This allows you to tailor cover to meet your needs. You can pick and choose from our full range of extras:
- Helmets and leathers cover
- Breakdown cover – just £48 for classic motorbikes
- Licence defence
- Ride any bike cover
- Keycare
- Excess protect
- Gadget cover
- Travel insurance
What is the difference between standard and classic bike insurance?
Classic motorcycle insurance is designed specifically for the unique needs of your bike. These types of policies can typically include optional extras you wouldn’t find with most standard policies, such as agreed value and limited mileage cover.
In addition to this, classic bike insurance tends to be more affordable compared to standard policies as most classic motorbike owners are experienced riders who treat their pride and joy well and often only take to the road for limited periods in the summer months.

Classic motorbike insurance FAQs
How old does a bike have to be to get classic motorcycle insurance?
Generally speaking, a motorcycle is deemed a classic when it turns 30 years old. However, at Bikesure, we classify some bikes from the late 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s as classics if, for instance, the motorbikes are no longer made and are considered rare.
Is classic motorcycle insurance cheaper?
Insurance for your classic bike can be cheaper than standard insurance. This is for a number of reasons, including because we know you’re more likely to take good care of your bike and you’re also likely to ride fewer miles than you would on a standard bike.
Do I have to MOT my classic motorcycle?
If your motorcycle is 40 years old or over, it is legally exempt from getting an MOT. That being said, your bike must still be kept in a roadworthy condition for it to be ridden on public roads. If you have the knowledge to maintain your own bike, you could check its roadworthiness yourself, but having your classic bike regularly tested by professionals can offer peace of mind.
